Why GCash and Maya no longer link to online gambling sites

E-wallets and gambling links: cover picture for this story

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) ordered e-wallets in August 2025 to remove all links to online gambling sites within 48 hours. GCash and Maya both said they would comply.

The order was announced at a Senate committee hearing on 14 August 2025. GCash suspended gaming access in its GLife section from the evening of 16 August 2025.

The BSP called the removal an immediate measure while it worked on wider rules for banks, e-wallets and payment platforms. Several senators also filed bills to ban gambling links in e-wallets and super apps.

The change still matters in 2026: PAGCOR lists the delinking of e-wallets as one reason it expects lower income this year.
